FAQs

What is CBD?

CBD, short for Cannabidiol, is one of over 120 cannabinoids that are produced by the humble cannabis/hemp plant. CBD is the second most prevalent compound in the plant and has a wide range of medicinal and wellness effects including relief from anxiety and pain plus anti-inflammatory, anti-arthritic and neuroprotective qualities. We recommend it predominantly for its anxiety relieving and anti-tension effects and as part of a balanced and healthy lifestyle. If you’re looking to treat a serious illness or disease always talk to a medical professional before taking any CBD product. To learn more about what is CBD refer to our  dedicated blog post on the subject.

What does CBD do?

CBD has been used to reduce stress, aid muscle recovery, reduce inflamation and pain and increase quality of sleep. While humans have been using cannabis medicinally for millennia, modern science is only just catching up and beginning to expose it's true benefits. CBD (at high doses) has proven effective in treating the symptoms of serious neurological disorders like epilepsy and multiple sclerosis with extensive research underway around the potential for treatment of many chronic disorders.

Why Goodrays?

Our idea for Goodrays is pretty simple... create great tasting, functional CBD products that have a genuinely positive impact for our customers. We brought together CBD experts, award-winning liquid developers, creative thinkers and business minds to develop a product we could all be proud of. We spent time on the best farms, in the best testing and extraction facilities and met many of the committed individuals who are bringing the benefits of cannabis to the people who need it. This is a passion project. The result is a great tasting product, backed with real benefits and underpinned by good ideas like sustainability, accountability and rigorous quality control around ingredients. Looking at our CBD drink review section from our client, it looks like if the recipe is working well.

How does CBD work?

CBD interacts with the body's endocannabinoid system (ECS) - a complex biological system that modulates neurotransmitters, metabolism and inflammation. The role of the ECS is to maintain homeostasis or balance across all physiological functions. It is distributed throughout the brain and nervous system and affects mood, memory, control of movement, pain management, development of nerve growth and synaptic plasticity. In other words, it is one of the body’s most important systems. CBD and other phytocannabinoids interact with this endogenous system by connecting to the network of receptors found throughout the ECS. Does CBD get me high?

CBD is a relaxant, but it’s not intoxicating like alcohol or it's psychoactive cousin, THC. CBD will not get you high but does have calming and rehabilitative effects at the correct dose. We’ve worked with some of the smartest brains in cannabis to find the right dose for Goodrays and to be frank, anything under 20mg isn’t really cutting the mustard.

Is CBD good for me?

In short, yes. Evidence suggests that CBD can improve quality of life by reducing pain, improving sleep patterns and reducing anxiety naturally and without side effects. Our consumers take CBD for a wide range of reasons; managing pain and reducing inflammation from physical injuries, reducing stress and anxiety when under pressure or increasing focus on a big new project or creative endeavour. As the science progresses we'll learn more and will be sure to keep you informed.

Is it legal?

Yes. CBD is legal in the UK, the EU, North and Latin America but some regulations may vary from country to country. To be legal CBD must be hemp-derived and there will be a legal limit for THC content – this can vary from 0% THC in Japan to 1% in Switzerland. Our CBD is sourced sustainably, rigorously tested, guaranteed free from THC and fully compliant with all local regulations.

Am I getting the real thing?

In Goodrays products, yes, but that may not apply to all CBD products on the market. A lack of comprehensive regulation and tracking means you’re going to have to do a bit of digging. Has the product been verified by a third-party lab? Can you track down their certificate of analysis? What kind of micro-testing and stability testing are they doing? Do you know where the derivative hemp was sourced? Does the brand have a good reputation?

What’s the difference between hemp and cannabis?

It’s a pretty common misconception that hemp and cannabis are two totally different kinds of plant. In fact, they’re not distinct species at all. They’re simply two different names for the cannabis plant. The only difference is the level of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the most well-known psychoactive compound in the plant. Cannabis plants with 0.3 percent or less of THC are called hemp. Cannabis plants with more than 0.3 percent THC are called weed, marijuana, pot, grass and hundreds of other names.

How much should I take?

The FSA recommends that you take no more than 70mg of CBD a day. That’s about three GOODRAYS or 28 drops of your standard CBD oils (just be sure to check for quality). These limits will likely loosen over time. To put it into perspective, most clinical studies involve doses of between 400mg - 800mg per day. We don’t recommend you conduct any clinical investigations at home but you see our point!

Can I get addicted to CBD?

No. In fact, some people take CBD to actually combat substance abuse disorders. CBD shows no potential for dependence or abuse. A recent report by The World Health Organization found that naturally-occurring CBD is safe and well tolerated in humans, and there is no evidence of any public health-related problems associated with the use of pure CBD: “In its pure state, cannabidiol does not appear to have abuse potential or cause harm.”

Can I take too much?

According to the recent WHO report, CBD is a non-toxic substance. In other words, it has no capacity for creating a reaction such as an overdose, even when consumed in large quantities.

What’s the best kind of CBD?

CBD isolate is the purest form of CBD that you can consume so we chose to use this in a highly bio-available water soluble format in Goodrays. We intend to explore the use of other cannabinoids in future products as the science evolves but in the meantime we have used natural cannabis terpenes in our products along with the purest form of CBD available.

What is the Endocannabinoid System?

Every human being (and mammal) has a cell-signaling system known as the endocannabinoid system (ECS) - a complex biological system that is involved in the regulation of physiological and cognitive processes such as mood, memory, inflammation, pain, sleep, immunity and stress response. CBD is a phytocannabinoid that interacts with the ECS receptors throughout your brain and nervous system. Cannabinoid receptors are tiny proteins attached to individual cells. They receive signals from various stimuli that help your cells respond to and regulate many of the functions of the body - their main aim is to maintain homeostasis (balance) across all the critical systems of the body. The ECS is a relatively new field of study, with the first receptors only being discovered in the early 1990's. With the resurgence of scientific research into cannabis and CBD we are continuously finding out more about this critical biological system.
